2016 Niagara County Peach Festival “TASTE OFF” September 10th

The Niagara County Peach Festival “Taste Off” recipe contest will be held on Saturday September 10th at 4 PM on the stage at Academy Park in Lewiston. The 2016 “Taste Off” is sponsored by the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, Niagara Gazette and Niagara Frontier Publications.
This year there will be three divisions for entries which include Food Enthusiast, Culinary Student and a new Children category.
Judges for the 2016 “Taste Off” will be Lynn Catalano from the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropy, Niagara County Community College President James P. Klyczek and Mark Mistriner, NCCC Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts Division Chairman.
There will also be a peach shortcake eating contest on the Academy Park stage featuring local media and dignitaries prior to the announcement of the 2016 recipe winners.
Original recipes must include fresh peaches and be prepared from scratch. The use of pre-made products may result in disqualification. Recipes must be legible and submitted on an 8.5” by 11” white sheet of paper with all ingredients fully listed. The recipe must also include how many portions it can serve.
The entry must include name, address and phone number at the bottom of the paper and be mailed no later than August 29th to Barbara Walck, Niagara County Community College, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, NY, 14132. Employees of the Greater Niagara Newspapers, Niagara Frontier Publications and Niagara County Community College and their families are not eligible to enter. Entries are limited to one per person. Food Enthusiast- Whether you are a Home baker or pastry enthusiast this category is for you. Individuals sixteen years or older are invited to enter their secret Peach recipe in this year’s Peach Festival “Taste Off” for a chance to be selected as a finalist and to appear on the Main Stage to prepare your entry live for the judges.
Culinary Student- All up and coming aspiring pastry chefs from the western New York culinary programs are encouraged to enter this category. Enter your very favorite peach dessert recipe for a chance to show off your emerging talents to the world and a chance to make your creation live on stage for the “Taste Off” judges.
Children- This is a new category for children from eight to thirteen years of age who love to bake. Create your own Peach dessert for a chance to be a finalist on stage at 4:00PM on Saturday September 10th.

It is my sincere pleasure to serve as your General Chairman for this, our 59th annual Niagara County Peach Festival! It's been an honor to work with a fine group of dedicated members, volunteers and sponsors with the shared goal to drive the festival forward while keeping true to its original values and long standing traditions. Through this collaboration we are able to offer you this spectacular line up of food and fun for the entire family! Once again 100% of the proceeds of this festival will go to local community organizations and non profits to enrich and support other Western New Yorkers. In 2016, you will continue to find the same delicious food, entertaining rides and traditions we have all grown to love including competitions for the coveted title of Peach Queen, Peach Blossom, and Peach Fuzz. Our annual parade, cheerleading showcase and our famous Peach Shortcake made with locally sourced Bittner-Singer orchard peaches are sure to please.
New this year you will find a focus on Niagara County Vendors, identifiable by special signage so that you will have the opportunity to choose to experience vendors from our own backyard for an authentic Niagara County experience! In addition we will be hosting a competition, challenging vendors to come up with a new and exciting way to use peaches in dishes, drinks and desserts that are sure to impress those with creative pallets! Alan Hastings Named 2016 Niagara County Peach Festival Chairman
Kiwanis Club of Lewiston President Reverend Tom Mason has announced that Alan Hastings has been named Chairman of the 2016 Niagara County Peach Festival. This will be the 59th annual Peach Festival held this year September 9th, 10th and 11th at Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston.
Alan Hastings, President of Hastings Hospitality and owner of the Silo restaurant has been a member of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club for fifteen years. Hastings has been involved with the annual Peach Festival in one capacity or another over that time, but this is his first year as Chairman. “It is my sincere pleasure to serve as General Chairman for the 59th annual Niagara County Peach Festival,” said Hastings. “ It's been an honor to work with a fine group of dedicated members, volunteers and sponsors with the shared goal to drive the festival forward while keeping true to its original values and long standing traditions. The Niagara County Peach Festival is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston and again this year will feature their famous peach shortcake made with locally grown peaches from Bittner Singer Orchards. The Niagara County Peach Festival will also feature forty carnival rides, peach recipe competition, twenty-two food vendors, Peach Queen Pageant, Peach Blossom and Peach Fuzz contests, Saturday Parade, cheerleading contest, 5K run and live entertainment.
The Peach Festival has raised close to one million dollars since 1958 for local charities and is sponsored in part this year by the Buffalo News and WGRZ-TV. For more information go to lewistonpeachfestival.org.
